Pitt’s Murphy Ruled Ineligible

By: Mike Vukovcan

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- The Pitt Panthers depth on defense took a hit today with the announcement of an ineligible player.

Sophomore outside linebacker Bryan Murphy has been declared academically ineligible for the 2011 season.

Murphy is expected to take a redshirt this year. He played in six games last season as a reserve defensive end and was expected to back up starter Brandon Lindsey.

Murphy was a highly ranked 4-star recruit from Don Bosco Prep.

My nephew attended Pitt the last 4 years. He says that the fotball players do not even attend class or do the work required and still pass, so what did this kid do that could make him ACADEMICALLY ineligible? I mean, if you pass for NOT ATTENDING, the only thing that I can figure is that he insisted on attending and doing the work yet flunked? Anybody?

Not sure who your nephew is, but the players do still go to college to take courses required of them. Now are some players treated differently than others? of course! but not all college football players come from the same crop so you shouldn’t treat them as such.

I am a Professor at Univ Of Pittsburgh. Students participating in Athletics do attend class and are required to do the work. Your nephew is a Liar! Or You are making the whole thing up and you are a Liar!
