Pirates Moving Tabata To RF?

By: Mike Vukovcan

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- When Jose Tabata is activated from the disabled list, will he be moved to a different position?

Tabata, who’s currently rehabbing with AAA Indianapolis, will play right field tonight for the Indians.

Tabata has never played right field at PNC Park before, though he played the position extensively in the Minors.

It appears as though manager Clint Hurdle is envisioning a speedy outfield of Alex Presley in left, Andrew McCutchen in center and Tabata in right.

Tabata has been on the disabled list with a left quad strain since June 28.

Presley, who’s rehabbing with Class A Bradenton, has been sidelined with a left hand contusion.

Here’s a look at what the Pirates lineup could look like when both players are activated.

Presley, LF
Tabata, RF
McCutchen, CF
Lee, 1B
Walker, 2B
Alvarez, 3B
Cedeno, SS
McKenry/Doumit, C

One potential problem is where does Ryan Ludwick fit into the outfield rotation?

hopefully ludwick will fit in some where, heck try him at third, pedro is working that hard

  2. Hot Carl says:

tabata is probably in right because its easier to cover and therefore less likely Tabata aggravates the quadricep again. It’s the cautious thing to do. That said I dont think Tabata will return anytime soon.

  3. jenn says:

Send Alvarez to the minors! He’s not ready for the big leagues!

  4. Sally Snyder says:

how can hurdle keep jones on the bench? CEDANO IS A LIABILITY A SS

  5. Rod Tillman says:

I guess none of you remember when Aramis Ramirez was being shuffled back and forth between triple A because he couldn’t seem to hit big league pitching early in his career with the Pirates. In almost the same amount of at bats, Alvarez is actually hitting better than Ramirez was.
The Fact is, you don’t remember, or you were not even around then.

  6. RandyRandyTime says:

TRADE MAHOLM AND LUDWICK FOR SOME GOOD YOUNG PLAYERS UNDER TEAM CONTROL THAT SOLVES THE OUTFIELD PROBLEM AND GETS THE PIRATES SOME GOOD YOUNG PLAYERS
