PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — She was a trailblazer for women in television. Carolyn Wean was the first female news director and first female general manager of a Pittsburgh television station.

Wean died on Friday at her home in Shadyside.

She was news director at KDKA-TV from 1977 to 1978, and also served as station manager and general manager in later years.

Her career also included stops in a number of other major markets.

She returned to Pittsburgh to become Vice-President of Special Products at WQED Multimedia.

Illness forced her to retire and it later took her life.

Wean was 68.
