Police Issue Warrant In Homewood Boy’s Death
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Pittsburgh police have now issued an arrest warrant for a teenager in connection with the shooting death of a 3-year-old boy earlier this week in Homewood.
According to police, 18-year-old Gregory Dalton is facing charges of criminal homicide, carrying a firearm without a license and recklessly endangering another person.
The boy, 3-year-old Zymiere Sewell, died early Tuesday morning in a Tioga Street apartment.
Police say he was pronounced dead “after a bullet struck him in the head from a pistol that Gregory Dalton had brought into the apartment.”
Earlier this week, detectives said they believed that Dalton left his .380 semiautomatic gun on a bed and walked out of the room. When he did, police believe the 3-year-old may have picked up the gun and accidentally shot himself.
A funeral was held today for the boy at the New Testament Missionary Baptist Church in Wilkinsburg.
Police say Dalton is six-feet-four-inches tall, 170 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information is being asked to call the Pittsburgh Police Homicide Squad at 412-323-7161.
