High School Athlete Dies After Collapsing At Practice

NORTH SEWICKLEY TWP. (KDKA) -- No word tonight what may have led to a teenager collapsing and dying during soccer practice Monday morning.

An autopsy has been completed, but results aren't available yet.

Rose McChesney, of the Beaver County Christian School, says 15-year-old Sam Dickson was recently medically approved to play sports.

Meanwhile, friends and classmates in this small, tight-knit school gathered at one of the campus buildings for a prayer service Monday night.

McChesney says Dickson was a great kid. "One of those people everybody loves."

Dickson collapsed during a break in practice at Brush Creek Park. Paramedics were called, but he was pronounced dead at Ellwood City Hospital.

Dickson's mom is the school business manager, and his young brother Gus also attends BCCS.

McChesney says the school community feels a great comfort in God and knowing that Dickson is in heaven, but says there will be tears for years to come.

School officials say an undetectable congenital heart condition is to blame in his death.
