PITTSBURGH (SportsRadio 93-7 The FAN) — Seibel, Starkey, and Miller play host to both Gerrit Cole’s and Josh Bell’s former coaches to talk about the newly signed Pirates players.
No. 1 draft pick Gerrit Cole’s coach John Savage from UCLA talks about the pitcher and how he will contribute to the Pirates organization. Savage says Cole is a “work horse” and has never missed a start, never had an injury, and will be a competitive starting pitcher.
Josh Bell’s high school coach, Brian Jones, also had great things to say about his former switch-hitting star. Jones said even he was surprised to hear Bell signed as he felt the letter to the MLB would be enough to shy teams away from going after him. Josh Bell is said to have an extremely high work ethic and a maturity level at his age that will contribute to the Pirates organization.
Both coaches agree their former players are a great get for the Pirates and acquiring a strong pitcher and a strong hitter, Cole and Bell respectively, will only help the organization move in the right direction.
