1 Missing After Apparent Indiana Co. Boating Accident

GLEN CAMPBELL (KDKA) - One person is unaccounted for after an apparent boating accident in Indiana County Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened on Hemlock Lake, near Glen Campbell.

Divers from three counties searched for the missing fisherman. Authorities said two men fell into the lake when their boat tipped over.

"One was rescued by the Glen Campbell Fire Department on the east end of the lake. They made attempts to reach the other man, but he went down before they could get to him," Big Run Area Volunteer Fire Department Chief Todd Peace said.

Officials believe the victim as clinging to a chair before he drowned. He has not been identified and his family has been waiting and hoping on the shore.

The recovery has been difficult. The lake is only 16 feet deep, but divers can only see up to 15 inches in front of their faces.

"It's dark, it's really dark. This lake here, there's a lot of stumps in the bottom of it. It's a muddy bottom, very muddy bottom. Not much current on the bottom, but visibility is poor," Chief Peace said.

It's the first drowning in over 20 years at the lake. The search is set to resume Sunday morning.
