Pittsburgh Police Investigating After Woman Found Dead

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating after a woman was found dead in Pittsburgh's Uptown neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

According to police, the woman was found in the 1500-block of Our Way. Officers were initially called for a female on the ground in a parking lot two blocks from the CONSOL Energy Center.

When officers arrived, they found that the woman appeared to have been set on fire.

"When officers arrived, they found the body of a black female who was at the end of a parking lot near some weeds. And it appeared that the victim had been set on fire at one point," Pittsburgh Police Cmdr. Tom Stangrecki said.

She has not been identified, but is described as being African-American with short black hair. She is also believed to be between 30 and 50 years old.

"We had heard that someone head screams maybe about 6:30 in the morning," Cmdr. Stangrecki said.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the cause of death.

Those who frequently walk in that area are concerned for their own safety.

"I'm actually very scared to be honest with you because I walk through here every day. Like I said, up here, I heard it was bad.  But, I never thought it would be this bad and it just really makes me second think about coming up here again," Clarissa Esper said.

"You [have to] be cautious. Watch your back, don't be out here by yourself. I do come out here by myself a lot of the time. I'm always by myself. It scares the heck out of me," Shane O'Neill said.

Anyone with information Is asked to call the Pittsburgh Police Homicide Office at (412)-323-7161.
