Teacher Talks Distracting Technology As School Returns

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — North Allegheny English teacher Tony Caruso has been teaching for 17 years.

He’s seen a lot of changes in technology through the years- especially distractions from cell phones, iPads and other handheld devices that are making their way into classes.

KDKA AM’s Larry Richert talks to Tony about how he handles the distractions as a new year begins.

Those devices are not the problem. The problem is surfing the web during class, posting bully-type comments on Facebook, updating Facebook, etc. The public has no idea how much time is spent weeding out the problems that occur when the children don’t think before they type or post. Police (Yes, police!) and school officials and teachers are constantly putting out fires with these issues. How many parents know that their child has a Facebook account or TWO of them; one for the parents to see and one they don’t show their parents?
