I think that one of the reasons that this wound is still so raw, 10 yrs later, is the uneasy feeling that no real explanation has been provided as to how our multibillion dollar intelligence apparatus could have bobbled the ball so disastrously on this. Or if they did actually see it coming, why was nothing done to prevent it? The official report concludes that it was all about lack of communication between intelligence agencies, which would seem to beg the question, of what have we been spending all of those billions on for all of these years. Yet, buried within the incredibly lengthy & wordy report itself, are nuggets of testimony from FBI & CIA field agents that would seem to contradict the report’s conclusion. This sort of mystery & confusion makes it very hard for this country to ever experience any sort of “closure” to this tragedy.
