Fatal New Kensington Crash Under Investigation

NEW KENSINGTON (KDKA) — One person is dead after a car accident in New Kensington.

Police and paramedics responded to the 500 block of Linden Avenue just before 3 p.m.

The Westmoreland County Coroner reports Mark C. Benzenhoefer, 54, of New Kensington, died in the crash.

He went through the intersection of Route 366 and Linden Avenue and apparently lost control. His vehicle went off the side of the road, hit several trees and flipped over.

"We heard a crash – we didn't hear anything – screeching tires, anything, just a crash," a witness told KDKA-TV.

"And when we went out, we could see that he was pinned underneath his vehicle. He was unresponsive and we got him covered up for shock and called 911."

According to the coroner, Benzenhoefer was pronounced dead at 4:33 p.m. The driver was the only person in the vehicle.

Investigators say Benzenhoefer died from blunt force trauma to the head.

He was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the coroner.
