Locke Promoted To Pirates

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- One of the Pirates top pitching prospects has been promoted to the major leagues.

Left-handed pitcher Jeff Locke and RHP Jared Hughes will be in uniform tomorrow as the Pirates take on the Houston Astros.

Locke, 23, was acquired along with Charlie Morton and Gorkys Hernandez in the Nate McLouth trade.

Locke has been very impressive since his promotion from AA Altoona to AAA Indianapolis. In 28.1 innings with Indy, Locke went 1-2 with a 2.22 ERA, striking out 25 and walking 9 batters.

With Altoona, Locke was 7-8 with a 4.03 ERA in 125 innings pitched.

Like Locke, Hughes will also be making his major league debut. With Indy, the 26-year old posted a 2.11 ERA in 42.2 innings, striking out 45 hitters.

Since Indy finished their season today, look for a few more players to be promoted.
