Marte Named Player Of The Month

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Altoona Curve outfielder Starling Marte has been selected as the Eastern League Player of the Month for August. It's the first Player of the Month award for Marte and it comes just a few days after being selected the Eastern League Rookie of the Year.

Marte, 22, finished the season with a .332 average, which led the Eastern League and earned him the first batting title of his career. A large reason for Marte's surge towards the batting title was his performance in the final full month of the campaign, where he batted .393 (46-for-117). The Santo Domingo, D.R. native had nine doubles, three triples, five home runs, 28 runs scored and 15 RBI in 28 games played during August.

Marte finished the season with 178 hits, a new Curve single-season franchise record, and 38 doubles, which was two-shy of the single-season record. He became the first active Curve player to win a batting title with his .332 average and finishes the season with the third-best average for a single-season in team history behind Steve Pearce (.334, 2007) and Jeff Keppinger (.338, 2004).
