State Police Investigate Reported Rape In Westmoreland Co.

NEW STANTON (KDKA) -- State police are investigating a reported rape in Westmoreland County. Investigators say the men charged in the crime are reportedly in this country illegally.

The rape allegedly happened in Room 360 at America's Best Value Inn on East Byers Avenue last Sunday.

The 21-year-old woman told police that she delayed reporting the attack for one reason only.

"She was scared, which is common when it comes to rape cases," said Trooper Steve Limani, of the Pennsylvania State Police.

According to the criminal complaint, the young woman first met 22-year-old Jose Amaya, who is from El Salvador, at Pagano's Restaurant a week ago.

Authorities say she met up with Amaya and two of his friends Sunday night for drinks. The victim said she was getting tipsy, and the men invited her back to their nearby motel room where they had been living.

"They're here doing roofing work," said Trooper Limani. "From my understanding, they've been here for at least three months now."

Once at the motel, officials say the woman relayed that the men started getting rough with her. When she tried to push them away and leave, they are accused of grabbing her, and throwing her on the bed. Then, she said two of the men allegedly held her arms and legs while the third had sex with her against her will.

When the men passed out, investigators say the woman went to the front desk asking for an ambulance.

State police came to the motel Wednesday night where they arrested Amaya, who officials say admitted through a Spanish interpreter that he did have sex with the victim.

A 39-year-old man was also taken into custody. Both being held in the Westmoreland County Prison

"We have these individuals, two of them that caused this crime, we have them behind bars," said Trooper Limani.

Police say they are still looking for a third man.
