Fire Prompts Evacuations Of Bethel Apartments

BETHEL PARK (KDKA) -- An apartment building in Bethel Park had to be evacuated early this morning because of fire.

Police were called to the Abbeyville apartments at 3120 Abbeyville Road around 5:30 a.m. for a report of smoke in the building.

Crews evacuated that building and an adjoining building; but authorities were initially concerned because they couldn't account for one person.

"At the time we arrived, the apartment was locked and the occupant was unaccounted for," Bethel Park Police Sgt. Blake Babin explained. "Officers tried to make entry but the smoke was too heavy and the heat was a little too intense, so it wasn't until after the fire department arrived that they could actually make entry and determine that there was no one in the apartment."

No one was injured.

Investigators are now trying to determine what sparked the fire.
