Man Killed In Crash Yards From Home

PENN TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- A deadly accident in Westmoreland County claimed the life of a man from Jeannette just a short distance from his home last night.

Penn Towship police say Clifford Fordyce, 48, was just about 50-yards from his home when his Dodge minivan crashed into a parked car on Government Road in Penn Township just after 8:30 p.m.

"One vehicle hit into a parked car; that vehicle then flipped over," Penn Township Police Chief John Otto explains. "At that point, the occupant -- the sole occupant and the operator of that vehicle -- was partially ejected from the vehicle and unfortunately fatally injured."

Police say Fordyce was dressed in Steelers apparel and they believe he may have been on his way home after a Steelers party at the time of the accident.

Authorities are investigating whether alcohol may have played a role in the crash.

The crash forced the Paintertown Volunteer Fire Department to close down Government Road in Penn Township late into the night.

There were early reports that another person may have been injured in the accident; but officials have not yet released any information on a second victim.
