Frank Coonelly Talks Huntington Extension & More

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pirates President Frank Coonelly joined Joe Starkey and Josh Miller of Seibel, Starkey and Miller on Sportsradio 93.7 The FAN to talk about the recent three-year extension given to General Manager Neal Huntington.

We opened things up with Coonelly discussing the extension of Huntington and whether or not his own tenure with the franchise can be judged by Huntington's success given that the public perception is that he is involved in the personnel decisions more so than other team president's.

Coonelly told us he is involved to a certain degree in the movement of the team, but the idea out there that he acts as a co-general manager of sorts is entirely overblown.

Coonelly also addressed the timing of the announcement and whether or not it was made at that particular time for a specific reason.

The Pirates' president also discussed some of the on-field issues such as locking up Andrew McCutchen long-term and the importance of Pedro Alvarez to the franchise's future success.
