Steelers To Start Gilbert At RT

Pittsburgh (KDKA)- Rookie 2nd round pick Marcus Gilbert will be given the first opportunity to replace injured RT Willie Colon.

Head coach Mike Tomlin announced during his press conference that Colon underwent surgery this morning for a torn triceps and the team just announced he's been placed on injured reserve.

Although Gilbert was drafted to be a left tackle, Tomlin said that he played both tackle positions while at Florida.

Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that the team spoke with Flozell Adams, but that he wants too much money.

Despite not being able to bring back Adams, the team is looking to sign another lineman.

This afternoon, the team announced that they've signed Jamon Meredith to take Colon's roster spot.

Meredith was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 5th round of the 2009 Draft.

He was on the Packers' 2009 practice squad before joining the Buffalo Bills and playing for Steelers offensive line coach Sean Kugler. Meredith has also played for the New York Giants and Detroit Lions.
