Chase Suspect Arrested After Pointing Gun At Officer

HILL DISTRICT (KDKA) – A suspect is in custody after pointing a gun at a police officer during a chase in the Hill District Wednesday afternoon.

According to emergency dispatchers, the incident happened in the 2400-block of Chauncey Drive around 4:30 p.m.

Officers were on a routine patrol when they observed three men coming out of a courtyard on Chauncey Drive.

One of the men appeared to have a firearm. As police approached the men, they identified themselves as officers and the man with the gun took off.

The three officers surrounded the suspect, who pulled out a silver and black pistol. After failing to drop the weapon, one officer fired a single shot at the suspect, but did not hit him.

He has been identified as 20-year-old Rico Scott.

Scott stumbled against a fence, dropped the gun and attempted to run away. However, officers were able to catch and arrest him.

While officers searched Scott, they found 100 stamp bags of heroin as well as crack cocaine.

The weapon was identified as a .40-caliber Smith & Wesson.

Scott is being facing a list of charges including, aggravated assault, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and other firearms charges.
