900 Kids Participate In Junior Great Race

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Hundreds of pint-sized runners took part in Saturday's Junior Great Race at Point State Park.

Roughly 900 kids ages 12 and younger participated in the event which officially kicked off Great Race Week in Pittsburgh.

Kids participated in a 1-mile fun run, a 50-yard tot trot, and a diaper dash.

There were mascots and face painters and even Mayor Luke Ravenstahl joined in the fun.

"This is always a great event, the Junior Great Race. It's good to see so many young people here getting out and staying active and staying fit. Having my son with me this morning, Cooper, this is his third Great Race and he's excited to be here," Ravenstahl said.

Each child received a Junior Great Race t-shirt and a medal for participating.
