PHOENIX (KDKA/AP) — The Pirates managed only two hits in their 1-0 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night.

Jeff Karstens (9-9) gave up five hits and one run over six innings. He struck out three.

Alex Presley and Karstens each had a hit, but overall the Buccos struck out 13 times.

Ian Kennedy (20-4) pitched eight innings, striking out 12 and walking Andrew McCutchen who had zero hits.

J.J. Putz earned his 42nd save despite allowing one hit in the ninth.
