D-Backs' Ian Kennedy Shuts Down Pirates, 1-0
PHOENIX (KDKA/AP) -- The Pirates managed only two hits in their 1-0 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night.
Jeff Karstens (9-9) gave up five hits and one run over six innings. He struck out three.
Justin Upton led off the sixth with his 31st homer off Karstens, snapping off his bat on a shot to left that was upheld by a video review.
Alex Presley and Karstens each had a hit, but overall the Buccos struck out 13 times.
Ian Kennedy (20-4) pitched eight innings, striking out 12 and walking Andrew McCutchen who had zero hits.
J.J. Putz earned his 42nd save despite allowing one hit in the ninth.
