SUV Slams Into Hill District Building, 1 Injured

HILL DISTRICT (KDKA) – One man was injured when a SUV slammed into his bedroom in the Hill District early Wednesday morning.

According to police, the accident happened at building in the new Bedford Hill complex on Memory Lane around 4 a.m.

The SUV lost control and crashed into the bedroom of an occupied unit.

A man inside the bedroom was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital and is expected to be okay. He has been identified as Delano Wright.

His fiancée said that they heard a loud noise and knew it was a crash.

"We were in here asleep and me and my fiancée heard a boom," she said. "My fiancée is paralyzed from the waist down, so he was thrown from the bed."

Wright was paralyzed in an accident seven years ago and now uses a wheelchair to get around.

"I was lying in bed and I was sleeping. All I heard was 'boom!' I'm thinking I'm in a wreck and all I know is once it hit, I fainted. I fell and I hit the floor and I can't remember [anything] else," Delano Wright said.

There is no word if charges will be filed against the driver at this time.

According to police, she lost control while trying to park. Her shoe heel may have become stuck and the incident is being treated as an accident.
