PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — The people making a last-ditch effort to save the Civic Arena from demolition have been dealt another blow.

The Third Circuit Court of Appeals has upheld the lower court’s ruling that will allow the Sports and Exhibition Authority to tear down the arena.

In the decision, the court said: “Specifically, we agree with the District Court’s conclusion that Appellant is unable to meet the standards of Federal Rule of Appellate Procedure 8 (a) and that Appellant has failed to show that it is likely to succeed on the merits.”

The SEA Board said demolition on the arena could start as early as Monday.

    This just makes me sad…

Another regrettable decision . . . you think we’d learn our lesson with all this destruction of property. Pretty hard to believe that this can’t be salvaged and repurposed.

It’s a dump, tear it down.

GREAT! get rid of the eye sore. Once developed this will generate good things for the Hill….meeting place, jobs, revenue, etc.

  • Russ

If these people want it preserved, why don’t they buy it.

Alot of people hate change in Pittsburgh. Where was everyone trying to save Three Rivers Stadium from implosion? If we keep the Arena up then we need to go back to incadesencnt light bulbs and crt tvs.

  • Stacie Pochedly

Leave it up! Make it a homeless shelter and police it with unemployed social workers and security guards. Create new jobs for Pittsburgh while serving our fellow citizens who are less fortunate. Instead of the cost of demolition, give the owners a tax break!

only in Pittsburgh would we destroy a unique-in-all-the-world building to put up another …. oh, what are we putting up? People go to Europe to see old, one-of-a-kind architecture. People will come to Pittsburgh for…The Cheesecake Factory perhaps?

What should we call the new parking lot that will be built there? Thank all of our leaders that helped ruin this beautiful building. VOTE THEM ALL OUT OF OFFICE! Now we are stuck with a real ugly eyesore for a arena. Thanks guy’s hope you are happy. Only in Pittsburgh this can happen.

  • NaplesFlaGal

Sad to hear about this one of a kind building. As an idea, why couldn’t this Arena be refitted inside and made an extension to the convention center. Most cities have more than one building for conventions. I hate the thought that they will tear this down to put in a parking lot.

Come on Pittsburgh, think outside the box.

I’m glad that a monument to racial bigotry and destruction of availability to the Hill District is gone.Ever see WQED special about the history behind it’s construction.? Property just taken away..

I have so many fond memories of this place. It is sad but life goes on and we cannot live in the past. Progress and development are whats important now.
