Man Dies After Hill District Shooting

HILL DISTRICT (KDKA) – A shooting victim in the Hill District has died.

Pittsburgh Police say the shooting happened in the 2400-block of Chauncey Drive at about 11:44 a.m.

Witnesses told police a gunman chased the 26-year-old victim through a courtyard on Chauncey Drive and shot him in the back and face.

"First of all, I heard loud noises. I thought somebody was moving furniture or something actually," an eyewitness told KDKA-TV.

"And when I stuck my head out the window, I seen the kid as he … they first initially shot him – he must of ran out of his shoes or something because he collapsed right there on the curb and immediately he got that blank expression on his face and started gasping for breath."

The victim was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital in critical condition. He died while in surgery.

Meantime, recently installed surveillance cameras have already helped the investigation. His name has not been released.

"We did learn from video that he was chased through this courtyard," Pittsburgh Police Commander Tom Stangrecki said.

A witness said the surveillance cameras have been operating for a week to 10 days.

"So this will be the tale of the tape in terms of these cameras they installed here," the witness told KDKA-TV.
