1 In Custody After Hill District Stabbing

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- One person has been charged in connection with a stabbing late Thursday night in the Hill District that sent one man to the hospital.

Pittsburgh Police say Darel Hinton Jr. is facing one count of aggravated assault in the incident.

According to Pittsburgh police, officers were called to the Red Onion Bar on Webster Avenue just before 11:40 p.m. for a report of a person stabbed.

The victim, a 21-year-old man who has not been identified, was found lying in the doorway of the bar with stab wounds to the neck and abdomen.

He was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for treatment and is listed in serious condition.

Investigators say the victim became involved in an alleged altercation with Hinton after getting off a bus on Kirkpatrick Street.

Police say after the altercation, the victim went to the bar where he collapsed in the doorway from his injuries, while the suspect, Hinton, ended up at Wong's Market on Centre Avenue where a store employee called 911 because he was covered in blood.

Police report that an officer found Hinton crouched down inside the store with a Swiss Army knife and tennis shoe that reportedly belonged to the victim. He was then taken into custody.

Hinton is being held in the Allegheny County Jail while he awaits arraignment.
