Collection To Be Held For Fallen Officer At Saturday's Pens Game
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Law enforcement officials will be collecting money for the family of Officer Derek Kotecki Saturday night at CONSOL Energy Center.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will be taking on the Buffalo Sabres at 7 p.m. and officers will be located inside the arena's gates before the game.
Officer Kotecki, an 18-year veteran on the force, was shot and killed while on duty Wednesday night. He is survived by his wife and two sons.
"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Officer Kotecki, who put himself in harm's way to protect his community," Dave Soltesz, president of the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation, said in a statement "The Penguins are proud to cooperate with this collection and help his family, fellow officers and friends during this difficult time."
All of the proceeds will benefit Kotecki's family.
