COWANSHANNOCK TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — One person was killed when a vehicle crashed over an embankment and flipped several times overnight in Armstrong County.

Authorities say the accident happened just before 12:30 a.m. Sunday along Route 85 in Cowanshannock Township.

The Armstrong County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as 52-year-old Daniel Kilgore Jr. of Rural Valley.

According to state police, Kilgore was headed eastbound when he lost control of his car navigating a curve in the road. The vehicle left the road, hit a utility pole, went over an embankment and rolled several times, also hitting two signs.

Investigators say Kilgore was thrown from the vehicle during the crash. The Coroner’s Office reports that he suffered blunt force trauma to the head and abdomen.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.
