Reported Kidnapping Attempt Probed In Apollo

APOLLO (KDKA) – A teenager says a man tried to kidnap her in Apollo.

State police say it was about 8:30 p.m. Sunday when an 18-year-old girl was walking up N. 11th Street.

"It's a quiet area – I've lived here my whole life," Bryan Kesler said. "To hear something like that – it's kind of shocking. I mean, especially this area through here – everybody's pretty close knit."

According to police, the girl heard a car pull up behind her, but she didn't realize the driver of the car would make an unwelcome advance.

She described the driver as a white male in his late 20's or early 30's. He's about 6-feet tall and had a black handkerchief around his neck. He also wore a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants.

She told police the man grabbed her by the neck from behind. She kicked him and ran to a neighbor's home for help.

"It's scary it happens in a small community like this," Tracy Emert said. "All we can do now is help each other out because we do not have 24-hour police protection here. Maybe this will get the council involved to bring on more protection."

Police are looking for a white van with windows only on the driver's and front passenger doors. There was also white writing on the rear window.
