30th Annual KDKA Turkey Fund Begins

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - In 2010, a total of $566,000 was raised for the KDKA Turkey Fund. It was enough to feed 38,000 families thanks to the efforts of the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank.

"With every dollar, every 50 cents, every penny that is contributed to our organization, we are able to turn that around and make magic out of it because of our buying power," Jermaine Husser said.

"The food bank in itself is amazing. Beyond Thanksgiving, every single day, they go to work and they help people. This happens to be something special. This happens to be more extraordinary, but they get great community support, great corporate support, volunteers," PNC Bank President Sy Holzer said.

Today, PNC Bank and the food bank were back at KDKA-TV to kick off the 30th anniversary of the Turkey Fund. As in year's past, $50 donations taken to PNC branches will be matched by the bank.

"The fiber of a community, the strength of the community makes our company better, and we feel that a stronger company makes our whole community better. So yes, it's just the way it has been here, and I've been here quite a number of years, and we strongly believe in supporting the community," Holzer said.
