IUP Football Player Arrested After Chase, Faces Multiple Charges

INDIANA, Pa. (KDKA) -- The starting linebacker for the Indiana University of Pennsylvania football team is facing charges following his arrest in the early morning hours of Sunday.

According to Indiana Borough Police, Alexander Berdahl was taken into custody just after midnight following a foot chase that started in the 700-block of Church Street.

Berdahl is now facing multiple charges including criminal trespass, resisting arrest, escape, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, public drunkenness and underage drinking.

Indiana Borough police report that the incident started when two officers spotted Berdahl allegedly attempting to break into a building.

When they tried to take him into custody, authorities say Berdahl fled, broke into a building and then jumped two-stories from the roof to the ground.

He was arrested a short distance away. Police say it took four officers and the use of pepper spray to take him into custody.

Berdahl was then taken to the Indiana Regional Medical Center to be checked out.

Berdahl was being held in the Indiana County Jail on $5,000 straight bond.

He has a preliminary hearing set for Nov. 3.
