4-1-Zoo: Pitt Grabs Guard Commit

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — After earning his second Big East win of the season Wednesday against UConn Pitt coach Todd Graham sealed another win over the weekend, receiving a commitment from offensive guard Adam Pankey of Hamilton High School in Ohio.

Pankey is rated a 3-Star recruit by both Scout.com and Rivals.com and is the second offensive lineman to commit to Pitt in the last month. Scout.com has Pankey rated the No. 80 guard in the country while Rivals.com has him as the 47th best player in the state of Ohio.

If one thing's clear through eight games this season it's that Pitt clearly lacks quality depth along the offensive line. Injuries to Chris Jacobson and Lucas Nix have made Tino Sunseri the most sacked college quarterback in the country.

For all the skill players that Dave Wannstedt was able to recruit, he never set the Panthers up with much depth on the offensive line. We're seeing that bite them this season.

Early on, it seemed like Graham was folowing suit with Wannstedt in the recruiting trail. Before this past month, Graham had grabbed commitments from players at several of the skill positions, but lacked any presence along the offensive front.

Now with Pankey and offensive tackle commit Adam Bisnowaty from Fox Chapel, Graham has made progress in bolstering his offensive front for the future.
