Man Dies After Murrysville Pedestrian Accident

MURRYSVILLE (KDKA) – A man has died after being hit by a vehicle in Murrysville Monday night.

According to police, the pedestrian accident happened around 8:47 p.m. on Route 22 near the intersection with Priority Lane.

"Upon arrival we observed that there was one vehicle involved. The victim was on the roadway," Murrysville Police Chief tom Seefeld said.

According to the medical examiner, Joseph Mull, 71, of Export, died as a result of the injuries sustained in the accident.

The man was attempting to cross the road and was hit by a Mercury Marquis being driven by an 18-year-old man.

"His vehicle was parked at the Standard Bank, which is on the north side of [Route] 22. For whatever reason, he walked across [Route] 22 to the post office and was coming back from the post office back to his car crossing the highway again in the eastbound lanes when he got hit," Chief Seefeld said.

"The driver of the vehicle, an 18-year-old male, is having somewhat of a rough time with it. Although, we don't feel there was anything he could have done to prevent that. It was a dreary night, rainy and the victim actually had on a dark-colored jacket."

The victim was flown to Allegheny General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead around 5:30 a.m.
