Tires Slashed On 30 Cars In Wilkinsburg, Edgewood

WILKINSBURG (KDKA) – More than two dozen cars were targeted by vandals.

Police estimate tires were slashed on approximately 30 cars between Wilkinsburg and Edgewood.

"I'm thinking kids," one person said. "Kids are kids, Halloween, you know, I'm thinking that type of stuff, so I don't know if it was any malice or whatever, but kids do the darndest things."

According to Wilkinsburg Police, 15 cars were damaged after 9:30 p.m. Monday on Whitney Avenue, Center Avenue and Holland Street.

Investigators suspect it was a Halloween prank. Gone are the days of toilet paper and eggs.

"As far as the egg-throwing incidents are concerned, we haven't had that in Wilkinsburg because we have had the cooperation with a lot of the stores in the area, that they weren't selling youth eggs," Wilkinsburg Police Chief Ophelia Coleman said.

Regardless of motivation, victims are angry.

"I was mad because, I'm like that's an expense [out of] my pocket," one woman said. "I just got two brand new front tires. This is an added expense."

Police say victims should file a report with their local police department so they can have substantive information to provide to insurance companies.
