Brooks Orpik Talks About Hot Start To Season

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik sat down with Jim Colony to talk a little hockey.

"I think we're happy with the start we had and as happy as you are there's always room for improvement. So, I think it was kind of identifying the things we did well and the things we probably need to spend some time on. Basically, with the schedule, we haven't had any practice time to really focus on those things or have good hard practices. The next couple weeks, if you look at the schedule, it opens up a little bit for us. So, hopefully we can focus on some of those things and improve on some of those things in practice," Orpik said.

The Penguins have been off since Saturday and will get back into game action on Thursday against the San Jose Sharks on the road. On Saturday they will be in Los Angeles to take on the Kings, but won't have another game until the following Friday.

Orpik said these long breaks between games are good for different reasons.

"I think it's different for every guy. I know for me, conditioning wise, I missed a lot of time and tried to get back into a game as quick as possible. It's always fun to get back out there, but it's tough not having any preseason games or stuff like that. So for me, it's probably different than a guy who's played all the games and the preseason games. I think collectively as a team, some of the systematic things that we haven't worked on much. It's a lot different watching it on video as opposed to working on it in practice and getting a better feel for it," Orpik said.
