WAYNE TOWNSHIP (KDKA) – Three people are dead and another person remains in the hospital with critical injuries today following a crash late Friday night in Armstrong County.

Investigators say the one-vehicle accident happened on Route 839 in Wayne Township around 10:30 p.m.

The Armstrong County Coroner’s Office says 18-year-old Sean McConnaughey, of Punxsutawney, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. He reportedly suffered blunt force trauma to the head.

State police have identified the other victims as Dylan Bherendt and Joel Riggleman, both 19 and both also from Punxsutawney.

They were taken by medical helicopter to a hospital in Pittsburgh where both were pronounced dead.

According to state police, the vehicle they were traveling in left the roadway and went into a field where it flipped and rolled over several times. All four people inside were ejected from the car.

The fourth person in the vehicle has been identified by state police as 19-year-old Blair Smith of Punxsutawney. He remains in critical condition at Allegheny General Hospital.
