Woman Found Dead After Fire In Aleppo Township

ALEPPO TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- Crews used a backhoe to dig through what was left of a house destroyed by fire.

In the basement, they found the body of an elderly woman who had become trapped inside.

She has now been identified by officials as 81-year-old Frances Hoston.

Firefighters believe the fire began in the basement of the home on Ferndale Avenue in Aleppo.

The woman's husband had been trying to put it out with a garden hose.

When firefighters got there - they found him severely burned. He told them his wife was upstairs.

"It's not a way that you would want somebody to pass on, but we are a family of strong believers, and we believe she is with the Lord," Leslie Davis, a family member, said.

The husband remains in the hospital with severe burns.

The fire marshal is investigating.

Stay with KDKA for the latest developments.
