Woman Rescued From Hillside Wants Swing Removed

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Courtney Fletcher, 23, of Mt. Lebanon, believes a rope swing has to go.

Fletcher suffered an angular fracture when she fell 8 to 10 feet to the ground on a walking trail in the Walker’s Run section of Collier Township nine days ago.

She’s the second person who had to be rescued for falling on the same rope swing. Fletcher spoke to KDKA-TV from her bed at Allegheny General Hospital.

“When it happened, I could see bone. It didn’t come out of the skin, but the bone popped up and my foot was dangling in the other direction. My foot went into a small hole and cracked in half.”

Fletcher’s swollen ankle is blistered and is in pins. She’s in store for another round of surgery in the coming days.

Fletcher wants the rope cut down so what happened to her won’t happen to someone else.

Collier Police Chief Tom Devin says police want the rope down, but since the most recent accident they’ve learned it’s on private property and they are still trying to figure out who owns it.

Poor Ralph, a good newsman assigned to an idiotic story like this. A rope, a moron and a mangled foot. KDKA really knows how to break the big ones.

  • Sam L.

Yes! for god’s sake we have to be SAFE. Safe, safe, safe! Better idea: No one move. Stand still. Bubble wrap for everybody!

    • Blame Dems For Everything

It probably was one of those liberal democrat rope swings, right Thomas?

    • Oy

You ought to marry her Tom,Then it would be dork+MORON

  • Sid

Seriously. The things on the news anymore amaze me.

And, it is on private property, she should be arrested for trespassing.

    • bob

Thank you for mentioning that before I had to do it. It doesn’t matter if the police ever figure out to whom it belongs, because it belongs to them, and not to those that hurt themselves on it. Hell, set up a bear trap if you want, just in case there might be a bear someday.

Meanwhile, and not that it matters, but how long could it possibly take the police to figure out who owns the property?

  • One small voice

Must be a slow news week, I guess she can’t find anyone to sue for her injury.

  • Penny

this is as bad as the person who sued mcdonalds for spilling hot coffee on the self and getting burnt because it didn’t say “caution hot”

  • John H

Unbelievable. KDKA is pertuating the “Blame anyone but my own stupid self” mentality that is in such vogue these days. How about this idea: if you don’t have the hand strength to hold your weight on a rope swing, DON’T GO ON IT!. The hospital better strap her into that bed. I smell a lawsuit when she forgets herself and tries to get up to retrieve the dropped TV remote.

Breaking news!! Auntie slips and breaks hip – calls for removal of linoleum nationwide. Gimme a break…

  • Buddy

She should be charged for trespassing. The property owner has every right to have a rope swing.

  • Fawn Liebowitz

    Stupid is as stupid does.

  • Mary

There should be a law requiring all citizens who leave the designated walking area (aka sidewalk) to wear elbow & knee pads, wrist guards, helmet with chin strap, and appropriate foot wear. This will need to be covered with an exterior layer of bubble wrap and egg-crate foam padding. Once properly equipped, said moron can feel free to roam on any private property & demand changes at will.

  • Canadohta Geocachers

Ok so you walk onto private property, use a rope swing, fall & break your foot. Now you want the swing down for your own stupidity!!!! You are the one whom was acting stupid, no one else!!!! Did the rope swing have your name written on it, or was there a note inviting you to swing on it?? Stupid is as Stupid does.

  • Jackie

What an idiot!!! I think she should stop trespassing on private property…

  • focalvapors

I broke my ankle snowboarding I guess we should outlaw snowboards and close Seven Springs. I guess this girl has never heard of assumed risk…

  • shame

What a sad mentality she has. Typical sheep.

  • rollo

People get hurt skiing and snowboarding too, should we outlaw playing in snow?

  • Bill

HMMM lets see.. did someone put a gun to her head to play on the rope swing? where does personal responseability come into play? hmmmm I guess since she is from Lebo then this makes the story all that more intresting!!
