Dreams Come True On National Adoption Day

PITTSBURGH (KDKA-TV) – They are children who come from troubled backgrounds. Who, for a variety of reasons, have been taken from their biological parents, but Saturday held a new beginning for them.

It was a happy scene at the Allegheny County Family Court Saturday on National Adoption Day.

Tina Morrison had been trying to adopt Kamerin for a long time.

"It's been a long process. Almost two years. Been a long road, but a blessed one," Morrison said.

The family courts make great efforts to keep children with their biological families. Unfortunately, it's not always possible. Sometimes adoption is a better alternative.

"It's really one of the great days of the year because it's really happy endings. These children who have been through the system have had a lot of trauma are now having permanent homes," Marc Cherna, Director of Allegheny County Department of Human Services said.

National Adoption Day is held annually on the Saturday before Thanksgiving.
