PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Despite a late-game rally, the Penguins lost to the St. Louis Blues, 3-2 in overtime.

Evgeni Malkin came through with two assists in the third – one on Steve Sullivan’s power play goal at 3:03 – the other on James Neal’s game-tying snap shot.

Alex Pietrangelo scored the game-winning goal in overtime.

Sidney Crosby, who netted four points in his explosive season debut, didn’t pick up any points, but had three penalties.

Deryk Engelland and Ryan Reaves exchanged blows at the Pens’ blue line in the first.

St. Louis took an early lead that period when Scott Nichol got the puck past Marc-Andre Fleury, who had 40 saves.

The Pens have Thursday off before finishing their homestand on Friday against the Ottawa Senators.
