Sinkhole Problems Close Monroeville Park & Ride

MONROEVILLE (KDKA) - A gaping hole is causing the Port Authority to close a Monroeville park and ride.

Now, hundreds of drivers east of the city are worried about how the closure will affect their commute.

A sinkhole, now under construction, has caused the park and ride to close in December and commuters said they need an alternate lot and fast.

The park and rides in the area fill to capacity every day and with the lot on Route 22 vanishing, it's a loss of 227 spaces that they can't afford to lose.

"We don't have anywhere to park. The parking situation is already at a maximum," Kelly Wagner said.

The parking lot that commuters used to use collapsed back in September.

The Port Authority had an agreement to use spaces in front of the closed Roomful Express. Now, the plaza has opted to end the lease agreement, which will kick commuters to the curb after Dec. 2.

"We need some sort of solution out here in the east. And we're hoping they rectify the situation and maybe continue to let us park here," Wagner said.

The Port Authority said they are actively looking for a new lot. In the meantime, commuters will have to fight for the spots available is other park and ride locations.

The Port Authority also said if you do have any suggestions on a new location, please give them a call.
