MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (KDKA) – The Pitt Panthers came close but lost to the West Virginia Mountaineers, 21-20 in the Backyard Brawl Friday night.

Tino Sunseri completed 12 passes for 137 yards and threw one pick.

Zack Brown and Isaac Bennett each rushed for touchdowns in the first quarter. The Panthers had 195 yards in total offense while the Mountaineers had 274.

Both teams had trouble converting on third down. Pitt did not score any TDs after the first quarter.

After Pitt took a 14-0 lead, the Mountaineers’ Geno Smith threw a 63-yard TD pass to Stedman Bailey to make it 14-7.

From there, the Panthers kicked two field goals and West Virginia scored two touchdowns.

This was the 104th Backyard Brawl and could possibly be the last one as WVU plans to leave the Big East and join the Big 12.

Pitt is also leaving the Big East for the ACC.

It’s hard to win when you have a little league coach and a pop warner league quarterback. Still, the zebras didn’t have a very good night tonight, did they?

Before you know it, Trina Orlando will be Tweeting that Pitt should not go to a bowl game. Just like she has been mouthing off about Penn State! So typical of the media now.

Pitt football has hit an all-time low. First, Wanny recruited Tino because of his father. He was medicre at Central. Can’t play D-I football. Graham is a bag of wind. Coach comes in here and promises 40+ points per game- high octane. Then there’s Pederson that should have been fired right after the Wanny event. No wonder nobody goes to the games. Do you think there will be any open seats Saturday for Syracuse.

Tell you right now….If Pitt doesn’t have a new Starting Quarterback next season…..I’m walking away…..!

This is crazy to try and compete in Division 1 Football with a Division 3 Quarterback at best…

See you when you learn how to put a winner on the field!

Pitt hit an all-time low several times… most recently during the Back to the Future era with Johnny (hiccup) Majors. Remember 72-0 and the other scores? Anyway, my family season tix (9 OF THEM) are done after 16 seasons. Won’t come back again until I see an Athletic Director who is SERIOUS about a football program. I’ll bet there are 14 thousand at Heinz for the ‘Cuse. Of course, Steve P and the Marketing Dept. will creatively turn that into 45 thousand and say that the allotment of tickets available for Syracuse fans were returned at the last minute and Pitt couldn’t sell them in time. HIGH OCTANE? More like HIGH METHANE! Flatulence never sounded so awful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you softies left Steve Pederson off the hook last winter after the wanny, Haywood fiasco and then when he got Graham to promise to save his job by talking up high-octane and 40 pts per game. STEVE PEDERSON must be fired now! Anybody listening??? or do you want to go through another season like this one??
