Beaver Co. Fatal Shooting Suspect Surrenders

ROCHESTER (KDKA) – A homicide suspect turned himself in Sunday afternoon in Mercer County.

According to police, the shooting happened at 2:35 p.m. at a home in the 400-block of Jackson Street in Rochester, Beaver County.

The victim was shot in the chest once and twice in the back as he was trying to escape.

On Sunday, Robert Maier turned himself in to Greenville Borough Police.

The victim has been identified as 31-year-old Matthew Rose, who is the son of Maier's girlfriend.

Neighbors heard the gunshots being fired.

"I was in the kitchen and all I hear is three shots being fired," neighbor Preston Aldridge said.

Another neighbor tried to help Rose after he had been shot while trying to escape.

"The suspect had walked out the door very calmly and started walking down the steps. He looked at us. He had a smile on his face and he just calmly walked down the steps, walked to his truck and took off," Eugene Aldridge said.

Preston Aldridge tried to calm Rose's two young children, including one  little boy who they claim saw everything.

"He's just constantly asking and it's breaking my heart, him constantly asking, 'Is my daddy going to be alright?' Because he knew exactly what went on," Preston Aldridge said.

Maier was arraigned on one count of criminal homicide Sunday night.

"I hope the most severe penalty comes to this man. I'm pro death penalty and I hope that's what he gets. That's what he deserves," Eugene Aldridge said.

There is no word on what led to the shooting at this time.
