Pacioretty To Have Hearing On Letang Hit

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) — Montreal Canadiens winger Max Pacioretty is scheduled to have a hearing with NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan because of a hit from Saturday night's game in Montreal.

In the third period of that game — a 4-3 overtime win for the Penguins — Pacioretty came across the ice and hit Letang in the head as he was in the process of shooting a puck on Canadiens goaltender Carey Price.

Pacioretty's shoulder and elbow appeared to make contact with Letang's head. Letang was in a defenseless position when the hit occurred. Both aspects of the hit are in violation of the NHL rule book, and it is one of the dangerous types of hits Shanahan and the league are trying to eliminate from the game.

Pacioretty said after the game he was regretful over the hit and said he was glad to see Letang return with just a bloody nose and nothing more serious. Pacioretty was not penalized during the game for the hit.

Letang returned to the game and ended up scoring the game-winning goal in overtime.
