MONACA (KDKA) — Fifth-grader Domenica Phillips and her family waits in the library of Todd Lane Elementary School in Monaca as Steelers LB LaMarr Woodley approaches the building.
Her mother, Michele Herstine, won an online contest sponsored by Verizon and the NFL.
“A few weeks later I got the call. Didn’t believe it,” her mother recalls.
“I’ve always liked the Steelers,” adds Domenica. “I grew up in a football family. My brother played football. And that’s about it.”
The guest of honor arrives, and they enter a raucous gymnasium. Five-hundred classmates cheer as she asks Woodley a tough question.
“What team do you like the least? Don’t worry I won’t tell.”
No problem. He lists them quickly. “Baltimore Ravens, Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, etc.”
A true gentleman, he doesn’t leave anyone out.
