Missing Elderly Woman Found In Baldwin Twp.

BALDWIN TOWNSHIP (KDKA) -- An 82-year old Jefferson Hills woman, missing for the past day and a half, was found by police after she was seen driving erratically on Route 88 in Castle Shannon.

Verna Hreha had been reported missing Tuesday afternoon when she was at a Bethel Park business and appeared confused.

Around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Hreha's car was stopped by Swissvale Police when she ran a red light. The officer said she appeared to be lost and asked for directions, so he helped her get to the Squirrel Hill Tunnel.

The officer said he called in her name, date of birth, and the license plate number of the missing Hyundai Elantra but a 911 dispatcher never said she or the car were being sought.

Swissvale Police Chief Gregory Geppert told KDKA-TV News that a fax on the missing woman came into the police station 40 minutes before his officer stopped Hreha but the BOLO never came over the police radio.

Geppert said his men stay on the road overnight and don't return to the station unless they have to file a report or their shift is over.
