First Night Pittsburgh Plans Announced

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Plans are in place for Pittsburgh's First Night celebration and Rusted Root is this year's headliner.

Hometown-based group Rusted Root is the headliner of this year's First Night.

"We're working on a brand new album right now. We just started recording it and so we have a lot of new material in this set. It's really exciting material, so it will be a good night," Liz Berlin, of Rusted Root, said.

There are more than 100 activities and performances lined up in nearly 50 different venues.

"We have three Equitable Gas marque performances this year at the Benedum, Byham and O'Reilly Theaters. We have numerous exhibitions in our art galleries, we have the parade and of course, fireworks, everybody's favorites," First Night Pittsburgh Director Darcy Kucenic said.

Highmark is the long-term sponsor of the event.

Organizers are expecting tens of thousands of people to show up and celebrate downtown.

"It's a chance to interact with your fellow Pittsburghers and other people from western Pennsylvania and really come together and enjoy indoor and outdoor activities," Kucenic said.

If you buy your admission buttons ahead of time, the cost is $8.

The buttons will be $10 the night of the event.

You can buy the buttons ahead of time in several locations:

You can also order them by phone by calling (412)-456-6666.
