Construction Work Ahead I-79, Parkway East

PITTSBURGH (KDKDA) -- The road construction season is quickly winding down.

One project that has frustrated thousands of drivers all summer will be over Saturday night.

Orange has been the predominant color in the northern part of the county and Saturday there will be a bit more pain.

"There is going to be some congestion tomorrow most likely because we will be restricting traffic both directions on I-79 down to a single lane essentially from 6 a.m. tomorrow morning through approximately 5 p.m. in the afternoon Saturday," PennDOT's Jim Struzzi said.

This will allow crews in the construction zone can sweep the road, paint lines and remove barriers.

By 5 p.m., it will be over.

"All three lanes of I-79 will be fully reopened at the Warrendale Bayne Road interchange," Struzzi said.

The other major work this weekend will be on the Parkway East where it crosses over Route 22 in Monroeville.

They are going to be working on the new bridge deck there so starting at 6 a.m. Saturday through 4 p.m. Sunday the outbound parkway will be down to a single lane.

The contractor will monitor the Steelers game and get off the road after the game so the Steelers crowd won't have a problem.
