Limited Number Of Arena Ornaments Available

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Keepsake Christmas ornaments made from the Civic Arena roof have been generating an overwhelming response; and while the Penguins Foundation is sold out until early January, a limited number will be available this weekend.

The artisans at Wendell August Forge have teamed up with the Penguins to recycle sheets of stainless steel from the arena roof into the popular keepsakes -- one showcasing the Civic Arena in front of the city skyline and another featuring the Penguins' logo with crossed hockey sticks above the arena's dome.

Thousands of the keepsake ornaments were sold within hours; and since the ornaments are handmade, the Grove City company could only guarantee that the first 15,000 orders would be delivered in time for Christmas. At last check, almost 30,000 ornaments had already been sold online.

While any new online orders will not be ready in time for Christmas, you might still have a chance to get one this weekend.

A limited number of the ornaments will go on sale at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Wendell August Forge shop on Route 208 in Grove City.

If you don't need the ornaments until after January, you can still place an order online on the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation's website (https://masilma.pair.com/pens87/giving/ornament.html)

Proceeds from the ornaments help fund ball hockey teams and elementary schools in Allegheny County.
