Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation Extends Order Period For Arena Ornaments

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation says they are now extending the order period for the keepsake Christmas ornaments being made from the Civic Arena roof.

Due to the overwhelming demand for the ornaments, the officials with the Foundation say they are now accepting orders through Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 5 p.m.

Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation officials say they have now taken orders for more than 40,000 ornaments.

All proceeds benefit Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation youth charities.

In a press release, Dave Soltesz, the Foundation's president, said: "The demand for these ornaments has succeeded our wildest dreams - and what it means so far is that, thanks to the overwhelming support of the general public, the Penguins Foundation can now fully fund three youth and school programs next year."

The artisans at Wendell August Forge have teamed up with the Penguins to recycle sheets of stainless steel from the arena roof into the keepsakes.

Officials say in order to meet the high demand for the ornaments the Foundation and Wendell August Forge have had to buy an additional 95,000 square feet of the arena roof.

All orders for the keepsakes placed now will be delivered in January.
