UNION TOWNSHIP (KDKA) — Police are investigating a violent accident in Lawrence County that claimed the life of one man and sent two women to the hospital early this morning.

According to authorities, the driver died when his car struck a tree on Old Youngstown Road near the New Castle Airport around 2:30 a.m.

Two of his passengers were injured in the crash — one woman was reportedly thrown from the vehicle while another was trapped inside. Both were flown via medical helicopter to the hospital.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

None of the victims have been identified.
